When I say poor Rita, I mean the Rita she used to be. She is now a one-dimensional nagging cow. I mean suuhhheriously, all she's done this season is berate poor Dex in her so *very* annoying whisper breaths.
Now I totally get that she has to have some input, she is after a long term major character, she used to be sweet, naive and supportive. And the entire premise of season 4 is all about asking the question of can Dex have it all? A wife, 3 kids, worklife and of course dealing with his forever demanding Dark Passenger. But now she nags, is always suspicious and adds nothing else to the storylines.
Anyone else agree? Thoughts?

I agree!! She has changed too much. I am currently re watching season 1 and the changes in Rita are huge. I don't like her much now. Be interesting to see how Dex handles it. I have had moments of yelling at the TV to her and egging Dexter on to finish her off!! Maybe she won't be around for season 5!! mmmmmm

Yep I agree too. LOL @sliceanddice (awesome nick for this board). You really yelling at the TV? That's bloody funny to visualise
It's like the writers are struggling to keep Rita a main character, seems that they just don't have much for her to do, so they maker her like Paul said “a nagging cow”!
I reckon Rita's character will ramp up with something soon. I wonder if the fact that she was married before Paul will come up again. If you remember Dex discovered he's Rita's 3rd hubby, but let it go due to his own darkness, figuring that if she wants to keep this a dark secret he's hardly one to judge.

“Hate” is much too strong a word for my feelings of Rita (Julie Benz). That constant whisper voice is annoying, but she's a treat for the eyes. She's also very hot in some of her scenes with Dexter; we need more of that!
I disagree that Rita has little to do in Dexter. Rita represents Dexter's ever-present opportunity to come clean to someone; to confess to all his killings. What would Rita do if Dexter told her the truth? Would she leave him, turn him in to the police, or might she be supportive of his Dark Passenger?
That's why she is constantly on the verge of discovering something undeniable about Dexter, and it certainly adds a good deal of drama to the show. There have been several times when I thought for certain that Dexter would tell her about his killings, but he always changes the topic at the crucial instant.
That's why I love Rita. It keeps the drama right on the edge. I'm constantly wondering what Dexter is going to tell Rita. Hopefully, that's going to happen in the last episode. I would love to find out what Rita will do with the truth about Dexter.
But she really should speak in her “big girl” voice.

Rita is getting on my nerves too. I wish she'd leave Dexter alone. I LOL when he bought her that breadmaker. We're outta bread? Go make some wasp breath b*tch!

@Blind_Stevie I agree, Rita does definitely add some pressure on Dexter and his Dark Passenger. Would be *very* interesting to see how Rita would react… Maybe she's OK as long as it's via his strict code? hmm dunno. I am VERY glad now that the whining has stopped, and she's smiling again.. OMG she is fricken gorgeous
Now as of episode 8 it appear she may have a gentleman caller.. being the married guy from next door. I doubt that *she* would do anything as I said in the recap post, but I have a feeling he's not going to take no for an answer in the end. Poor damaged Rita.. Anyone else wonder where this neighbourhood guy thing will go?

I can't believe you people. Rita represents a sweet loving wife; everything gentle and kind. She represents just the opposite from what Dexter really is. How would you like her to act? Would you want her to come after him with a golf club everytime he comes home late or cuss him out with a mouth like his sisters?
Stop and think about how YOU would respospond in this situation. If your spouse was gone all the time and never home when you needed him or jumped up and ran out of the house at any time……would you be less than a nagger.
Dexter needs her and he needs this family to keep his sanity. Leave Rita alone and let her BE the person she IS and the person that Dexter fell in love with.

I love that so many people love Rita. She is definitely the balance that Dexter needs. And I agree with memawson, I'd be the same way if my husband took every call when it came in and left in the middle of anything that was going on, important or otherwise.
Yes she is a nagger, but she is not the annoying type of nagger. She is doing it out of love and concern for the man she loves.
