Fearing the police are closing in on him, the Ice Truck Killer murders Angel’s prostitute informer, displaying her as a Christmas gift in Santa’s Cottage, along with a surprise. Doakes suspicions surrounding Dexter and his connection to the Ice Truck Killer grow when he catches Dexter in a series of lies regarding the case. Using his connections, Dexter researches an old case of his stepfather’s from 1973, revealing even more bizarre events and people from his suppressed childhood. Captain Matthews uses Lt. LaGuerta as a scapegoat for the failure to apprehend the Ice Truck Killer also as retaliation for LaGuerta’s publicly humiliating him and has her replaced. Meanwhile, Rita takes the kids to see Paul, who is now back in prison. The Ice Truck Killer kidnaps someone very close to Dexter in order to bring his plan to fruition.
